Rules that shape Canterbury advertising
Anything promised in an advertisement is tested against the Fair Trading Act 1986, which the Commerce Commission enforces and which also covers environmental and quality claims. Under the Building Act 2004, restricted building work must be carried out or supervised by a Licensed Building Practitioner, and claiming to be licensed when you are not is an offence, so builder pages state licence status exactly as it appears on the register. Marketing emails and texts need consent under the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007, and lead forms must meet the Privacy Act 2020. Food and agricultural products carry their own labelling and claim rules, which we raise during the brief and check again before launch.
