British Columbia rules checked before launch
Across Canada, CASL governs commercial email and text, and the Competition Act prohibits drip pricing and requires environmental claims to rest on adequate and proper testing. British Columbia has its own private-sector privacy statute, the Personal Information Protection Act, which applies to most provincial businesses alongside PIPEDA for cross-border data. Consumer Protection BC enforces the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act, which prohibits deceptive acts and practices in ads, quotes and contracts. Real estate licensees come under the BC Financial Services Authority and the Real Estate Services Act, so brokerage and licence details need to appear correctly in ads. Regulated professions, such as lawyers, dentists and physicians, also follow their colleges' advertising standards. We confirm which of these apply during onboarding.
