Quebec rules checked before launch
Quebec adds three layers to national rules such as CASL and the Competition Act. First, the Charter of the French Language, as amended by Bill 96, generally requires commercial advertising and public signs to be in French, with other languages allowed only where French is markedly predominant; the Office québécois de la langue française administers it, and stricter rules on trademarks and signs took effect on 1 June 2025. Second, Law 25, the Act to modernize legislative provisions as regards the protection of personal information, requires a named person in charge of privacy, clear consent, notice of tracking tools and incident handling, with fines of up to C$25 million or 4 per cent of worldwide turnover. Third, the Consumer Protection Act bars advertising aimed at children under 13. BX does not give legal advice, and your counsel signs off.
